Amazon on October 1 is adding 37 new movies to its Prime streaming lineup, including two Martin Scorsese classics.
The new films will include The Departed, Scorsese’s 2006 crime drama starring Jack Nicholson as his wolfish best in the role of mobster Frank Costello. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, Vera Farmiga and Martin Sheen round out an exceptional cast in what may be Scorsese’s best movie since Casino in 1995. Hell, maybe since Goodfellas; yes, it’s that good. William Monahan’s taut but pulpy script (pulpy in a good way) keeps you on the edge of your seat, and Marty’s characteristic adrenaline-fueled direction leaves you breathless from beginning to end.
But if there’s a better Scorsese movie than The Departed, Goodfellas and Casino, it’s Raging Bull, the 1980 Scorsese drama starring Robert De Niro as middleweight boxer Jake LaMotta. It’s also being added to Amazon Prime on October 1 as is several other absorbing flicks such as Drugstore Cowboy, The Pianist, Quantum of Silence and Girl, Interrupted (an early star turn from Angelina Jolie who steals the picture from its star, Winona Ryder.)
